What is a workflow?
A workflow is a small task you run by name from the Workflow panel: press ⌘Space, type its keyword, add an argument if it takes one, and press ↩. AppPad comes with 19 built-in workflows, and you can write your own.
Steps
A workflow runs one or more steps in order. Each step gets the previous step’s output, and the run stops at the first failure. Each step is one of these:
- A shell script
- AppleScript or JavaScript for Automation
- A shortcut from the Shortcuts app
- An HTTP request (GET, POST, PUT, PATCH or DELETE)
- A built-in action, such as emptying the Trash or setting the volume
Arguments
Whatever you type after the first space is the argument. AppPad reads it by its type before the workflow runs:
- Text
- as typed
- Duration
- 10, 90s, 1h30m, 1:30
- Time
- 7:30, 730, 7pm
- Number
- 42
- Percentage
- 0–100
- Reminder
- tomorrow 3pm Call Mom !! @Work
Safety
Scripts run in a real macOS sandbox. A workflow only gets what it declares, such as files to read or write, network access, apps it may control, HTTP hosts and Keychain secrets, and only after you allow it: once, always, or not at all.
